7 Steps to Stay Connected to Your Partner During an Argument [infographic]

How do you get through an argument with your partner or spouse? On several occasions, especially in the first few years of our relationship, my fiance and I would realize that we were actively participating in an argument that was going in circles with no resolution while we just became angrier with each other, so we would each retreat to our computers and chat it out. Having to type what we wanted to say to each other in clear and concise sentences seemed to calm us both down, and it was easier for me to abandon my own personal need to have the last word. It’s a terrible personal trait, I know.

While chatting it out online worked to keep my fiance and I calm and able to get our points across, every relationship deals with arguments and misunderstandings differently. Check out the following infographic for 7 tips to stay connected to your partner during an argument and resolve issues in a calm, compassionate manner.

  1. These are some great tips, thank you for sharing. Me and my boyfriend are going on our 7th year, and starting to bicker a little more, so hopefully this helps 🙂

    1. My fiance and I are also going on our seventh year and we bicker quite a bit. I’m actually a big believer in bickering because I think it’s a sign that we’re not holding any grievances we have with each other in, but getting them all out in the open before we start to resent one another for something or before something can turn into a big argument. Bickering is good in my book, and it can also be funny when you look back at it.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this information. I have been married for many many years, it’s easy to take each other for granted. My husband actually does family therapy. I plan to share this post with him in hopes that he can share with his clients if he sees fit. Thanks again
