I'm British so ignore me if you like :/ Firstly I want to congratulate and thank America for electing Barack Obama - if only we in the UK had the opportunity to elect such an inspirational leader! I am convinced that the world was celebrating this moment with you! On a side point - although I found the Republican campaign and platform rather insulting I was impressed with John McCain's farewell speech, amidst the boos of his own followers he had the grace to not only congratulate Obama but actually commend him for his inspirational campaign! Obama took the high road - a lesson for us all. Looking forward to the future at last.

Yes, I couldnt believe it as I watched the votes come in and he was announced President Elect. I was so happy and thought to myself America has came a long way. There will be change in America and this is the beginning. I hope this country will come together as 1 nation instead of just red and blue states. Loved both parties speeches and have respect for McCain after his speech.

I want to know who told those people there was no hope, and how they could possibly lose hope in this great coutrny of ours. Puh-leeaaaze! We have people running across the border INTO this country because it's a coutnry of hope. Cubans DIE coming here for asylum because we have hope. British citizens are FLOCKING to this coutnry becuase their laws are getting more and more ridiculous every day, and common sitizens are losing their right to petition the government to address their grievances.

What is astounding is that we have sunk so low into this state of oblivion that we have lost sight of the precious freedom that we have. More people can go to college today than ever before, thanks to grants and institutions that provide low-cost loans. Mature adults can go back to school to change careers if they want. We have education that is open to ALL, legal or illegal, and NO ONE is denied health care for any reason.

We FEED THE PLANET. Thanks to government programs, which are abused frequently but are there for those who really need it, NO ONE in this country has to go hungry if they just reach out for help. Public schools even offer free breakfast and lunch for those kids who don't' have enough money to pay for it. There is no lack of opportunity in this coutnry. What we have is a populace who, more and more often, looks to the government as a nanny or a cash cow to give them everything they need, instead of taking initiative and creating their own wealth. We don't need wealth re-distribution -- we need floks who are willing to work and be creative. To Find their own way and make their won path. That's how this country was founded, and how it has developed into the BEST THIS PLANET HAS TO OFFER any human being, in history.

THIS is Hope -- that we have the freedom to make our own way in this coutnry, and be rewarded for our work or service. NOT that someone else's hard work will swing our hammock for us.

We have some issues we need to deal with, but for Freedom's sake, DON"T buy into the blatant lie that there is no hope, or that this country does not offer more hope and opportunity than any other in the world. OR that for the first time, we finally have hope. How many people telling and listening to lies creates consensus? I'd like to know.

I think the election in the us has got to be a world wide change, especially in a word where many of us have mixed race children and colour really is not an issue to those of us whom are open minded. The problem is those whom are not open minded enough to look past someones skin colour thats when the problems are created. Under Bushs reign world war 3 was not far away what gave him the right to go against the peoples decision and take it into his own hands to start a war ??

The amount of pride that I feel and felt cannot be described. I woke my children up to see this...so that they never forget this day. So that they tell their children and grandchildren how America finally put aside the issue of color and made a choice based on character. I feel now that MLK, Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and many other civil rights leaders did NOT die invain.

I honestly cried a couple times during the acceptance speech. I'm not weepy but I couldn't help I was witnessing probably the greatest moment in african american history that I'll witness in my lifetime.
