The 82nd Annual Academy Awards took place last night at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. The biggest night in Hollywood was a tremendous success for filmmakers and actors alike, but the first thing we saw last night was the fashion–and there is no event bigger than the Oscars to get celebrities to go all out, putting their best (and sadly, sometimes their worst) fashion foot forward.
Abandoned, the last film made by actress Brittany Murphy before she died in December after suffering cardiac arrest caused by pneumonia, anemia and multiple drug intoxication, has been picked up for North American distribution and is scheduled to arrive in theaters this summer.
Anchor Bay Entertainment has bought the film and President Bill Clark stated that it was an honor, but also bittersweet to be able to release Murphy’s last film, which finished filming in June of last year. Anchor Bay Entertainment has released a statement, saying:
“It was important to Anchor Bay that the timing of this release be right, because we’re sensitive to such a tragic loss. However, we also recognize that Brittany’s fans will want to see her amazing work.”
The producers of the psychological thriller, Jeffrey Schenck and Barry Barnholtz have released a joint statement, saying:
“Brittany will be deeply missed by everyone who worked on Abandoned. The film is a taut thriller which portrays Brittany’s character as smart and tough – and that’s how we all want to remember her.”
If you’re interested in the film, Murphy plays Mary Walsh who takes her boyfriend to the hospital for a routine outpatient surgery but he vanishes with no record of him left behind. Soon, however, Walsh receives a random demand. The film co-stars Dean Cain and Mimi Rogers.
The Oscars are coming up in March and nearly everyone is abuzz with their predictions for this year’s winning people and films. Vanity Fair wants to know who you think will be taking home an award this year and have launched the Vanity Fair Hollywood iPhone app.
For those of you out there, like myself, who don’t have an iPhone or iPhone Touch, the Vanity Fair Hollywood app is also available as a web-based application. So get those predictions and votes in and tune in on March 7th for the Oscars to see if you were right!

Up in the Air
Last night, Guy Ritchie, Robert Downey Jr, Rachel McAdams and the rest of the Sherlock Holmes cast walked the red carpet at the Berlin, Germany premier. Check out the hit cast and their red carpet style.
Okay, it arrived a little more than a week ago and I’m just getting around to posting it. Bad blogger and even worse, bad SATC enthusiast!
I’m scared and really, really not as excited as I wish I was. Why is Carrie in her apartment? Is Mr. Big living in her apartment with her because something tells me that no, he definitely is not. Oh yeah, and why in the hell are they in the desert?
…And another thing–the Carrie On catchphrase sucks; Get Carried Away was so much better but we must also keep in mind that they never had anticipated making a sequel or for that matter, a movie in the first place.
I guess we’ll find out the answers to these burning questions (and probably many more depending on how many additional trailers get released or leaked) on May 28th! Will you be at the theater opening night?
The first official trailer for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland has been released. Check it out above.
What do you think of Burton’s remake of the classic? I am personally not exactly excited for it, given what he did to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I am also pretty damn sick of seeing Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in every single Tim Burton movie; I know, I know, Johnny Depp is the new creepy man stereotype and Helena Bonham Carter is Tim Burton’s wife, after all, but come on already–there are a lot of other great actors out there that would most likely jump at the chance to work with Tim Burton.
The film is set to be released on March 5, 2010. One thing I am excited about–3D.
The first theatrical poster for Sex and the City 2 has arrived and I don’t know about you, but I absolutely hate it. It’s ugly, tacky, gaudy and looks like it would be better fit for a Battlestar Galactica movie. Hopefully several more will come out throughout the next couple of months as the movie gets closer to release because this is not good.
I have this really awesome movie called Kamikaze Girls. It’s about two teenage girls in Japan who are finding themselves. They come from two different “worlds”, meaning one is into Lolita fashion and lives in “doll” clothes and the other is a wanna-be bike gangster.
It’s a good movie. It came out in 2006 and I was one of the I don’t know how many who pre-ordered it. And it is my all time favorite movie to date. It’s also how I discovered the (omg to die for) music of Japanese singer Anna Tsuchiya (she plays Ichigo who is on the right). I have all her cd’s. The other girl in the movie (on the left) is an actress I’ve never heard of till now, Kyoko Fukada. The movie is actually based on a book written by Novala Takemoto called Shimotsuma Story (the book she has in her hand above). I’ve obviously never read it because it’s in Japanese, and I don’t know how to read Japanese. I wish I did though. Wish I knew how to speak it too. It tells of how these two girls became friends. Here’s a small bit from the site about the movie ’cause I haven’t watched it in months, and I can’t really recall it.
Momoko (pop idol Kyoko Fukada, pictured above) yearns to live in 18-century Versailles than in her back-country hometown of Shimotsuma, heartland of the yakuza. To escape, she loses herself in the dreamy, doll-like fashions of the “Lolita” scene. Her idol is Akinori Isobe, chief designer of Baby, the Stars Shine Bright—her favorite Lolita design hose. She travels all the way to Tokyo to shop at their store.
One languid summer, to help fund her expensive hobby, Momoko runs a classified ad of brand-name knock-off clothes (produced by her dad) for sale. She encounters a buyer named Ichiko (the real name is Ichigo), who happens to live in her neighborhood.
Super-rebel Ichiko (model and J-rock icon Anna Tsuchiya, pictured below), is a “Yankee”-style member of the Ponytails motorbike gang, one of Ibaraki’s “Wild speed tribes,” whose teeth-rattling customized bikes are decked out with fiberglass shields and bannered backrests.
Somewhat against Momoko’s will, she and Ichigo slowly develop a strong friendship as they share their feelings on the odd goings-ons around them.
I think, as well as the story which is very touching, I loved the fashions. Momoko (Kyoko Fukada) shops at a Japanese Lolita fashion store called Baby the Stars Shine Bright. Out of pure boredom and curiosity, I looked it up. And low and behold, there it was! It’s a real store. And they’re opening a branch in San Fransisco. That made me the happiest girl in the world. I can’t wait till it comes. I am so going on a shopping spree (online of course). I totally recommend this movie to anyone with little girls or even for themselves. It is in Japanese so you’ll have to do some reading but it’s totally worth it. And as a bonus the movie even comes with a video of Anna’s song, Taste My Skin. Awesome song. So yea, check it out. Let me know what you think of it!! And watch this movie. You’ll be sorry you didn’t.
The set of Sex and the City 2 recently hit Morocco for filming. Sarah Jessica Parker was seen on location wearing a Dior t-shirt and a purple and grey skirt and I don’t know about you, but I want that skirt!
