Get Some Flu-Fighting Foods in Your Diet

Get Some Flu-Fighting Foods in Your Diet

I have been sniffling and coughing off and on for a week now and it seems that no matter what medicine I take or how much time I spend “taking it easy” in bed or snuggled up on the couch with bad TV and great movies, the runny/stuffy nose and coughing comes right back a few days later. No matter where you live, for the past month, people everywhere have been suffering bouts of the flu in its many forms and January and February are the seasons that make up what we call the “flu season.”

Whether you’ve already been hit with the flu or not, it is important to get nutritious flu-fighting foods in your system. Whether you’re fighting the flu or warding against it, no one is safe from getting the flu, especially if you work in an office or retail environment …

When the Going Gets Tough

When the Going Gets Tough

With the worldwide economies threatening meltdown, and the bad news that seems to batter us daily (and the constant talk and media attention surrounding it), it’s understandable that stress levels are increased. Even more concerning is that study after study shows us that stress can have dramatic effects on your health and physical body.

One very important method of neutralizing these harmful effects is to maintain an ultimate level of health and fitness to ensure your well-being is always up to par, no matter what is happening in the environment around you… It’s about creating a truly healthy lifestyle and maintaining positive attitude!

A lot of people today confuse our SELF Worth with our NET Worth. This could not be further from the truth! It is not the same thing.

Ben from Ya-ttitude writes:

“Every adversity carries with it the seed of …

Senate Approves SCHIP Expansion Bill

Senate Approves SCHIP Expansion Bill

The Senate approved a bill to expand and reauthorize the Children’s Health Insurance Program in a 66 to 32 vote and President Obama plans to sign this legislation into effect. The State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) provides health insurance to children from low-income families who cannot afford private health care but do not qualify for federal Medicaid. SCHIP currently provides health insurance to more than 7 million children and passage of this legislation expands the program to cover 4 million more children, including for legal immigrants.

In the most blatant of terms, SCHIP provides health insurance to children of families who are stuck in the middle–Not poor enough to be considered for federal insurance, but too poor to even think of the possibility of purchasing insurance from private and major companies. It has been an unfortunate situation, to …

Doctor, Doctor!?

Doctor, Doctor!?

Drs. Carol Baker and William Schaffner eliminate conFLUsion about influenza.

What is influenza?

Although influenza can cause headache, cough, sore throat, and a stuffy/blocked nose, it’s not the common cold. A cold can feel like a cake walk compared to the flu. Influenza is a serious viral infection that can spread quickly through a home, school or office and cause severe illness, like pneumonia and sometimes even death. It hits you very suddenly, usually with high fever, aches and chills. Children can also have ear aches, nausea and vomiting. It’s not pretty.

How bad can it really be?

You’ve heard the phrase “hits you like a ton of bricks.” People use the word “flu” loosely, often to describe a terrible cold or a stomach virus. But flu is more than an inconvenience; it can wipe you out and it can lead …

Moderate Alcohol Intake Associated with Higher Levels of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Moderate Alcohol Intake Associated with Higher Levels of Omega-3 Fatty Acids

A recent European study, IMMIDIET has found that moderate alcohol intake, most particularly wine intake, is associated with higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids in plasma and red blood cells.

IMMIDIET examined 1604 people from three different geographical areas, southwest London in England, Limburg in Belgium and Abruzzo in Italy. Through a comprehensive medical examination as well as a one year food frequency questionnaire to assess their dietary intake, including alcohol, IMMIDIET found that moderate alcohol consumption works like a trigger in the body, boosting the count of omega-3 fatty acids in our systems.

Omega-3 fatty acids are mainly found in fish and while many of us have probably heard of these fatty acids, it could be potentially dangerous to our health to not know how important they are to our diet. Due to their high blood …

How To: Pass a Drug Test

How To: Pass a Drug Test

I’m sure a question on a lot of stoners’ minds is “How do I pass a drug test?” when it’s time for their next job interview. Some insurance companies even make you get tested before they’ll insure you. Hospitals test new mothers for illegal drugs as well, to make sure the baby isn’t in any sort of danger.

I recently came across an article on what’s supposed to be an informational blog about marijuana that really irked me. Instead of simply stating, “No, there is not” and bashing everything, why don’t you take the time to do some research? Passing a drug test while you’re doing drugs isn’t easy, but it is possible, depending on the kind of test.

There are four main types of drug tests: urine, saliva, hair and blood. The most common of these are urine and saliva. I’ve only heard …
