We really, really love cereal. There are at least three boxes of different cereals in our kitchen at any given time and we eat cereal a lot more than just in the morning for breakfast. Cereal is a great breakfast food, but it also makes a fantastic snack, especially when you have a terribly backwards schedule and are up all night and most of the day. Cereal is there for you when you need to eat something after you’ve been up for far too long and you don’t feel like cooking. We obviously really love cereal and definitely consume more of it than what’s probably considered normal.

There is nothing quite like firing up the grill on a summer afternoon, making fantastic food, mixing up some delicious cocktails and inviting your friends and family over. Everyone is always looking for new spins on foods we all love and can’t get enough of–especially during the summertime.
I recently had the opportunity to try out two new flavors of 30-minute marinades from Lawry’s. Thanks to MyBlogSpark, I was sent Lawry’s 30-minute marinades in Tuscan Sun-Dried Tomato and Szechuan Sweet and Sour BBQ, in addition to Lawry’s seasoned salt, a glass marinading dish and a set of skewers. Everything anyone would need to prepare their grilled dishes and get some really incredible flavors.
And incredible flavors you will get with these marinades! Out of the two, I really enjoyed the Tuscan Sun-Dried Tomato marinade. It contains a great blend of rosemary, oregano, sweet bell peppers and sun-dried tomatoes and while Lawry’s says it’s an ideal marinade for chicken, pork or vegetables, we used it on steak and couldn’t have enjoyed it more.
It’s pretty common knowledge around these parts that I should not be trusted in the kitchen. I make a mess, nothing comes out right and unless you want some burnt something with a side of soggy something, just keep me out of the kitchen. My partner however, is a fantastic cook and he had a great time with these marinades and he was particularly impressed with the quality of the marinading dish and everything he could use it for besides just marinating our meat. Lawry’s has definitely found a home in our kitchen.

We are a big fan of Asian cuisine, but it isn’t always the most frugal of choices to go out to your favorite Chinese restaurant as often as you would like to; especially when as often as you would like to is a few times a week. I can personally attest to the fact that a few bucks here and there at a restaurant can add up pretty quickly when you take a look at how much you’ve spent over the course of just a month because you gave in to some really strong Chinese food cravings again and again. You may have turned your nose up at the thought of a frozen meal, what you are probably picturing as a standard TV dinner you pop into the microwave, and at first I thought essentially the same thing. I recently had the opportunity to try Wanchai Ferry’s newest flavor, Beef & Broccoli, which is tender beef strips and an assortment of Asian-style vegetables in a thick brown sauce over white rice. I received a package of Wenchai Ferry Beef & Broccoli as well as two modern and gorgeous tea sets from MyBlogSpark.
Wanchai Ferry frozen entrees take a whole 14 minutes to prepare, so it is going to be super quick to get on the table. The beef and vegetables are incredibly easy to cook in a skillet on the stove and the rice is just popped into the microwave for 2 minutes and comes out perfectly cooked with a great texture, which was very pleasantly surprising. The finished product is actually a lot tastier than I thought it was going to be and is definitely among the best frozen entree meals I have had the pleasure of trying out. Buying Berries:
Visit a berry farm to pick them during the peak of the season.
In the store, look for berries that are plump, firm and colorful, turning berry cartons over to check for moldy or mushy berries before you buy.
Berries perish quickly; purchase them when you plan to use them.
Storing Berries:
Wait until you use the berries to wash them. Unwashed berries stay fresh longer.
Store berries loosely covered in the refrigerator for no more than two days.
If you can’t use the berries right away, freeze them or make a puree or sauce that will keep longer.
Freezing Berries to Use Later:
Wash and dry berries, removing stems and leaves.
Arrange berries in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze overnight.
Transfer frozen berries to an airtight freezer bag or container; freeze for up to a year.
Preparing Berries to Use in Recipes:
Wash berries with cold water in a colander; drain well.
Allow to air dry, or pat dry with a paper towel.
Remove stems and leaves with a hulling tool or paring knife.

I was able to try two boxes of Cascadian Farm cereal–Fruitful O’s and Cinnamon Crunch, two boxes of granola–oats and honey and dark chocolate almond, and two boxes of chewy granola bars–chocolate chip and dark chocolate almond. Also inside the package was a handy reusable green tote bag that was able to fit all of the Cascadian Farm products, as well as other bags of cereal and miscellaneous junk food inside it.
When you live in an apartment, you soon realize how valuable tote bags can be. They can be hung up in a pantry or kitchen closet to keep clutter out of your extremely cramped kitchen space, which is what I love using them for. They can also be taken with you out on errands, used to store small snack items and toys for your children and you can also fill them up with snacks, sunblock and other beach items for a day out at the beach or to your local public pool. Of course, you can also take them grocery shopping to store produce or if you’re just picking up a few things so you don’t waste plastic or paper grocery bags.

The Cinnamon Crunch cereal tasted exactly like the non-organic version of the cereal I remember from as far back as childhood. In fact, I couldn’t believe how similar it tasted.
I have always been a big granola fan, so being given the opportunity to try Cascadian Farm brand granola was a huge treat, especially considering how much I loved it. The oats and honey granola was very plain, but not so plain that it didn’t have a taste. It was sweet and you could taste honey in every bite of it. It would make a fantastic yogurt granola for breakfast, lunch or a small snack at any time of the day. But what’s my favorite?
I went absolutely crazy about the dark chocolate almond granola. This granola is absolutely amazing. At first I just tried it straight out of the box, which gave me a great snack and for the next few days, I woke up each morning and ate it for breakfast in a bowl with some milk. Either way, it is delicious and if you like granola, you need to try it. I loved it so much that I boasted about it on Twitter while eating it and even asked Cascadian Farm to marry me. And no, I do not think I was overreacting or exaggerating one bit, thank you!
The chewy granola bars were also a great big hit in our house and I would have taken a proper picture of those as well, but they ended up disappearing astonishingly fast. Needless to say, Cascadian Farm went over big in our household and in just a few days, everything was eaten up and for the record, we plan on buying Cascadian Farm products in the future–a lot.
