Everyone knows Angelina Jolie the Oscar-winning actress, mega celebrity, and international activist, but with the release of the new film In the Land of Blood and Honey, Jolie can add writer and director to her resume. “In the Land of Blood and Honey” has been nominated for a Golden Globe. The film tells the story of Danijel (Goran Kosti?) and Ajla (Zana Marjanovi?), two Bosnians from different sides of a brutal ethnic conflict. Danijel, a Bosnian Serb police officer, and Ajla, a Bosnian Muslim artist, are together before the war, but their relationship is changed as violence engulfs the country. Months later, Danijel is serving under his father, General Nebojsa Vukojevich (Rade Šerbedžija), as an officer in the Bosnian Serb Army. He and Ajla come face to face again when she is taken from the apartment she shares with her sister, Lejla (Vanesa Glodjo), and Lejla’s infant child by troops under Danijel’s command.

As the conflict takes hold of their lives, their relationship changes, their motives and connection to one another become ambiguous and their allegiances grow uncertain. “In the Land of Blood and Honey” portrays the incredible emotional, moral and physical toll that the war takes on individuals as well as the consequences that stem from the lack of political will to intervene in a society stricken with conflict.

The art of baking the perfect holiday cookie is pretty much lost on me as an adult. Me and baking is very hit or miss, but I still wanted to make something delicious and sweet to indulge in while celebrating the holidays with my family. This holiday season, Chex encouraged people to mix it up and replace the traditional cookie swap with a Chex Party Mix-Change, and since I didn’t want to set myself up for failure by attempting to make my own homemade holiday cookies this year (maybe next year!), I jumped right on board.

I received an awesome prize pack to help get my Chex Party Mix-Change started, which included 2 boxes of Chex cereal, 10 red takeout containers, 5 featured Chex Party Mix recipe cards, and a $20 gift card to purchase recipe ingredients.

Making Chex Party Mix is incredibly simple; in fact, it is so easy that with guidance through the recipe instructions, my 6-year-old stepdaughter made the Chex PB and Chocolate Blast party mix nearly all on her own.

Prep/Cook Time: 15 minutes
Servings: 22 (1/2 cup each)

You Will Need

• 6 cups Rice Chex cereal
• 1 cup white vanilla baking chips (8 oz.)
• 1 cup peanut butter chips
• 1 cup red and green candy-coated chocolate candies
• 1 cup dry-roasted peanuts

Before combining the candy and peanuts, I microwaved the white vanilla baking chips and peanut butter chips in separate containers for 5 minutes, just until they were warm enough to be stirred smooth. Then, the mixture was put into two bowls, each containing 3 cups of Rice Chex cereal, and lightly stirred until the cereal was lightly and thoroughly coated. After being placed in the refrigerator for 5 minutes to set, I broke the cereal apart into bite-size pieces and had my stepdaughter place handfuls of the cereal into each of the takeout containers.

Then, she also filled the containers (which she had already written the names of the recipients of our Chex Party Mix on) with the red and green candies and dry-roasted peanuts. After a light shake to mix up all of the ingredients, our Chex PB and Chocolate Blast party mix was done and ready to be gifted and enjoyed!

So simple, and incredibly delicious! I actually enjoyed the Chex Party Mix we made at home a whole lot more than any bag of pre-made Chex Party Mix I have had before–and I’ve tried quite a few of them.

I recently spent an afternoon with my 6-year-old stepdaughter, Rylie, just the two of us. She is very girly, loves all things pink and purple, and the funkier the item, the better. As soon as I saw Picasso Hair Feathers, I had a feeling that when she saw them she would really get into them, and I was right.

I received the Sweetheart 5-pack from Picasso Hair Feathers, which features an array of pink and purple hues. Each feather is 14 inches in length, guaranteed kink-free, and can be cut and styled any way you like.

Picasso Hair Feathers are unlike most other feather extensions on the market, as they are cruelty-free and made of synthetic materials instead of rooster feathers. I didn’t know this until I did some research on the subject, but the hair feather market contributes to the brutality and slaughter of thousands of roosters. The fact that Picasso Hair Feathers is committed to making a quality product without sacrificing the well-being of animals is all the more reason to support them if you are looking to add some fun flair to your locks.

Application of Picasso Hair Feathers is relatively simple–once you know what you’re doing. I have a particularly confident attitude when it comes to instructions in the sense that I don’t always read them. At the end of each feather is a threading loop and micro-ring already attached and because of that, I thought I would be able to just wing it. Subsequently, my first attempt at getting a feather into Rylie’s hair was a complete failure.

Luckily, a short and very helpful video was made by the woman behind Picasso Hair Feathers showing just how easy hair feather application can be when you know what to do with the threading loop and micro-ring.

The most important thing to remember when applying, in my experience, is to have enough hair gathered that your hair feather has something to hold on to and will stay in place, and not so much hair that you can’t get it through the micro-ring. As soon as I figured that out, the feather went right in.

Picasso Hair Feathers are a super fun way to explore a new, unique look again and again. While each feather lasts for 4 to 6 weeks and can be washed and styled, even with a blow dryer and flatiron, right along with your hair, they can be removed at any time. To do this, just squeeze the sides of the micro-ring on the top of the feather until it opens up and slide it out of your hair. You can even save it for future use if it’s still in good condition.

As C. Leigh Purtill recently wrote in an article we republished a few weeks ago, Veronica May’s self-confidence wasn’t just tested by the people she came into contact with in the book, she is in fact still being discriminated against because of her size by a number of people who have read this book since it was published in 2008. Veronica doesn’t suddenly get to LA, realize she’s “fat”, and then go on a crash diet or start popping diet pills and working out six hours a day, seven days a week with hopes of turning her body into a size 0 so the powers that be within the entertainment industry finally give her the time of day and a job. She doesn’t give up on her dreams or on herself by considering herself “less-than” because other people tried to make her feel that way.

Veronica struggles throughout All About Vee, but because she doesn’t struggle in the ways a lot of people expect her to or how a lot of people think plus-size women should struggle, a lot of contempt has been placed on the shoulders of Veronica May. But in all of the ways people have disliked her character, those are precisely the reasons why I have loved her and why she has stuck with me throughout the years.

I think the reason why Harry Potter has done so well is due very much in part with the fact that the series lasted a substantial amount of years. I was in the fifth grade in 1998 and by the time I was in middle school, entire friendships had been fostered through the mutual fondness of the first Harry Potter book. Today, I am 25 years old and while I may have hopped off of the Harry Potter bandwagon not long after I had hopped on, this series has not just an undoubtedly loyal fan base, but also the unique ability to bring people who are separated by generations together.

Ten years after the first Harry Potter movie was released, we have reached the end of an era. On November 11, 2011, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was released on DVD, bringing the entire series–in both book and movie form–to an end.

The final face-off between good and evil is finally upon us as “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2″ is released on DVD, just in time for the holidays! Join Harry, Ron and Hermione as they do battle against Voldemort in the epic conclusion to the film series everyone is talking about!

Fall is somewhat of the unofficial start to baking season, and with good reason. For the first time in months you can bare to turn your oven on for more than 30 minutes at a time without feeling as if you just may overheat and pass out in the middle of your kitchen. This is pretty much the only reason you need if you’re asking yourself if you should bake some brownies. The answer is yes. Always, yes. I am fairly certain that there is never a bad time for freshly baked brownies, which pretty much sums up why I recently tried out the new Betty Crocker Milk Chocolate Traditional Brownie mix in the middle of the night. The middle of the night is still prime brownie-making and consuming time, believe me.

We have made our own homemade brownies from scratch before, and while they are always good, they also take a significant amount of time and energy to accomplish. I’m not always a big fan of waiting. Me and the concept of patience are not very well acquainted, so I’ll most often opt for brownie mixes in order to satisfy my chocolate craving in as little time as possible. These brownies can be made in just three extremely easy steps and are ready in under 20 minutes. That delights my inner five-year-old who anxiously waits in front of the oven as if that will somehow alert the brownies that they need to hurry up and finish baking so I can put one in a bowl with a generous scoop of ice cream.

My brownies came out perfectly and they were delicious. Packed with delicious milk chocolate flavor, but not containing so much chocolate that it makes you sick and not want to look at chocolate at any point in the foreseeable future. Something that I could not help but want to dole out copious high-fives over is the fact that the Wilton baking pan that arrived in our Betty Crocker Milk Chocolate Traditional Brownie Mix prize pack is non-stick and made it so that the very first brownie that emerged from the baking pan came out cleanly with no hassle. That is pretty spectacular if you have ever had to fight with your food to get it out of the pan.
