Internet Searching Tips: Determining the Reliability of Internet Information

Internet Searching Tips: Determining the Reliability of Internet Information

The internet is perhaps the most valuable research tool ever invented, and a few moments spent searching random keywords can yield a cornucopia of results and opinions. However, many professionals, educators, and students are reluctant to use the internet to do research because the quality of the sources vary greatly. You may find everything from the angst-filled ramblings of a 12-year-old to the published journal articles of renowned professors. Filtering information correctly is key to savvy internet usage. Rather than missing out on the valuable information available on the internet, take cautious advantage of its offerings.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when searching the internet:

Look at the Quality of the Internet Search

Inaccurate writing can still be well-written, but accurate, fact-based research is unlikely to be riddled with typographical errors and grammar mistakes. Look at the quality of the writing you’re reading. If …

Take Care of All Your Small Business and Personal Shredding Needs Faster and Easier with #FellowesInc

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Fellowes. All opinions are 100% mine.

Paper shredders are a staple in all professional office settings, but they are also important for home businesses and frequent personal use. Think of all the substantial documents you print off your computer and receive in the mail. Your monthly utility bills, information about your mortgage, property taxes, insurance, credit card bills, bank statements, and the list goes on; every one of these things contains personal information that no one ever wants someone else getting a hold of. While you may have been simply recycling or throwing away these documents for years, doing this does not guarantee that the information printed on those pieces of paper is kept confidential. That is where the importance of a …

Stop Searching for that Article You Forgot to Bookmark–Get Organized, Meet clipix

Nearly two weeks ago, my partner and I moved into our new house. Going from renting a small apartment to buying a house that, by comparison, is gigantic, is a drastic change. I noticed that as we progressed down this path of completely changing (and improving) our living arrangement, I began to develop completely new interests. For one, I became obsessed with design blogs and websites; I still am. Apparently our move triggered my brain to open up its crafty side. Of course, this wasn’t something that I planned on happening and when I first started to come across home decorating and craft ideas that I liked, I thought “Hey, that’s pretty cool,” and then moved right along. I didn’t even think to bookmark these pages and I really wish that I had.

Sh*t Mom Bloggers Say [Video]

Sh*t Mom Bloggers Say [Video]

By now I am sure you have all seen at least one version of the “Shit People Say” video. This flurry of videos began in mid-December with Shit Girls Say, a hilarious and frighteningly accurate 1 minute and 19 seconds full of numerous quips that pretty much every woman alive is guilty of saying. The video quickly went viral and has since accumulated over 12 million views. That was just the beginning.

In the past month and a half, people everywhere took this idea of things certain types of people say and started creating their own videos. Some are based in observation, some from personal experience; some are in the name of awareness which lends to social justice activism (most notably, this happened with the Shit White Girls Say to Black Girls

Stop Internet Censorship!

Stop Internet Censorship!

Today, some of your favorite websites will not be displaying or functioning fully. They will not be at our collective disposal with just a click of a button, and their content will not be there, ready to entertain us, or inform us, or make us better citizens of the world. Instead, these websites will be dark or possess very little other than a message of protest against proposed U.S. legislation that threatens internet freedom: the Stop Internet Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA).

As it stands today, the U.S. has laws in place to fight online piracy and copyright infringement. You see this in action every time you go to watch a YouTube video and instead of the video, you see a notice that it has been taken down due to some …
