Oh, How Pinteresting: Words to Live By (When You Freelance)

Oh, How Pinteresting: Words to Live By (When You Freelance)

I have worked from home, frequently freelancing, since I was 18 years old. It has been a wild and ever-changing nearly-seven years of blogging, blogging and more blogging, on top of taking the (now very seldom) web design and development gig. I used to do a whole lot more of that–prioritizing clients over most everything else, creating new websites or fixing old websites, consulting on new ways for businesses to reach potential new customers, doing a whole lot of copywriting and explaining the concept of social media and how it’s just waiting there to become their new, very needy friend (yes, there are still businesspeople out there who have yet to embrace social media, believe me!)–but a few months ago, I stopped working with most clients. I let my official Hire Me! Hire Me! domain expire, I put up notices on Facebook and …

In Time for Labor Day, Gallup Finds Only 52% of Americans Approve of Labor Unions

In Time for Labor Day, Gallup Finds Only 52% of Americans Approve of Labor Unions

Yesterday was Labor Day; a day that seems most appropriate to discuss the important work that labor unions have done throughout the years. In an extremely timely release, Gallup published their findings that just 52% of Americans are in favor of labor unions at the end of August. This is about the same percentage of people who were in favor last year, but is still nearly the lowest approval rate of labor unions since Gallup first began polling in 1936.

Fighting for and defending the rights of works is tough business, especially in recent years when labor unions have come under attack more and more frequently.

The topic of labor unions really made its way into most households during the Madison, Wisconsin protests. News outlets all over the country reported about the partisan political standoff …

Trust Me Hurricanes, I Will Never Doubt Your Power Again

Trust Me Hurricanes, I Will Never Doubt Your Power Again

When you live in Pennsylvania, like I do, or in any of the surrounding states, you are pretty used to “extreme” weather. This mostly occurs during the winter months, when it is always very likely that you will fall asleep on a cold but clear night, only to wake up, look out your window and suddenly find yourself in the middle of a game of Hide and Seek with your car that has been completely lost under mountains of almost-blinding white. If you have to go anywhere that day, your morning will likely go a little something like this: force your front door open, freeing it from the pounds of snow that have accumulated on your doorstep throughout the night, trudge through snow that impressively reaches your knees until you reach the space where you …

Watch Anderson Cooper Get a Severe Case of the Giggles on Air [Video]

Watch Anderson Cooper Get a Severe Case of the Giggles on Air [Video]

As you may have already heard, Gerard Depardieu can now add “public urinator” to his long list of life accomplishments and last night, Anderson Cooper added Depardieu to his “Ridiculist” for the act.

After being told that he would have to wait to use the restroom on an airplane, due to the plane still being on the tarmac, Depardieu proceeded to urinate on the floor of the passenger cabin. In all fairness, I have found myself, on more than one occasion, in a desperate situation that called for my immediate attention to relieve my bladder at all costs. “At all costs” could very well be urinating on the floor of an airplane in Depardieu’s case. However, that’s just the detail of this story; the context of it, anyway. The real story is that while Anderson Cooper delivered his pee pun-laden tangent about the case, the reporter came down with one severe case of the giggles on air, much to the enjoyment of myself, and just about anyone who has seen the video clip.

Take a look for yourself after the jump and I’m sorry, but Anderson Cooper has never been so cute to me before this moment.

Warning: If a Cop Catches You Popping Zits in Public, You May Get Arrested

Warning: If a Cop Catches You Popping Zits in Public, You May Get Arrested

I have seen many instances where people have gotten arrested for reasons I either did not agree with or saw no reason for, but this is seriously one of the weirdest “crime” stories I have come across in quite a while.

Owen Lemire Kato, a 23-year-old man from Florida, was arrested outside of a McDonald’s for–and I am totally serious here–popping zits on his back.

Guilty of grossing out the establishment’s patrons, who had complained numerous times about there being a man outside for over 10 minutes popping pimples on his back, Kato was approached by an off-duty police officer. After giving a false name to the police officer, Kato attempted to flee the scene; he was promptly tackled by another officer who had been nearby and had heard the call about the disturbance go …
