We have probably all seen Lady Gaga’s video for her song Bad Romance. It has over 240 million views on YouTube and it’s still racking up the views. While the video came out back in November of 2009, people are still pretty obsessed with it, and more specifically, her great big, cartoon-like eyes from the bath tub scene of the video.
Lady Gaga’s eyes in the Bad Romance video are computer generated. They were not simply made from makeup tricks, yet that isn’t stopping people from trying to achieve the look on their own.
There is a certain type of contact lens called circle lens that covers part of the white area of the eye and replaces it with a small, darker ring that extends further than the where the iris normally ends. The end result is your eyes look much larger and with a little makeup, white eye liner and some fake eyelashes, people have recreated the Lady Gaga Bad Romance look.
Circle lenses are already very well-known in Korea, but are gaining more and more attention in the US, where it is illegal to purchase contact lenses without a prescription. That isn’t stopping people from purchasing them from websites who are shipping the lenses to the US regardless of the fact that it is illegal for them to do so. But that isn’t the dangerous part about these contacts.
CBS Medical Corresponded Dr. Jennifer Ashton has weighed in on the dangers of circle lenses, saying that because someone is not getting fitted for the lenses by a doctor, they are either too loose or too tight on the wearer. This can cause some pretty serious infections and also scratched corneas. In some cases, it has been said that these infections can even lead to blindness.
While news of the potential dangers these contact lenses pose for the people who wear them is just receiving a great deal of attention, there are many tutorials on how to apply them and do your makeup to make your eyes look cartoon-like on YouTube. The most popular has nearly 10 million views, which I find pretty troubling.
While new trends are always popping up all over the place as soon as a big enough celebrity wears something, this trend could lead to a potentially serious condition. Blindness is no joke, even if there is a very small chance of actually going blind after developing an infection because of these contact lenses, it isn’t worth it. I just don’t think that putting yourself at risk to go blind is something worth doing as part of a fashion trend that will most likely not exist in a matter of months.
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Ramblers Way Farm. All opinions are 100% mine.
You may have heard of Ramblers Way and their Rambouillet wool, but the mission and the belief system that goes into their work goes so far beyond what you think you may know about them.
Ramblers Way is a family business with true passion and dedication to what they have built for their lives and business, all while paying homage to America’s rich history as a textile producer. The Rambouillet wool of Ramblers Way is grown on their own sheep farms and ranches that are spread across Maine, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas and Utah. The products Ramblers Way takes great pride in producing are made from only the finest, natural materials available throughout the country and you can be guaranteed that their apparel is non-toxic, naturally-insulating, fire-resistant, odor-absorbing, washable and long-lasting.
What I find truly impressive about Ramblers Way, and what I think you will find equally as impressive is that they have truly re-imagined wool–while inspiring more people to do the same. When most of us think about wool, it’s easy to immediately think about winter weather and bundling up to brave the cold, and most of us stop there. Ramblers Way is spreading the word about all of the great uses wool has and how it can be used nearly year-round.
Ramblers Way has an extensive stock of next-to-skin garments that are uniquely soft and lightweight, making it perfect to wear all day and night, regardless of the temperature outside. This is possible because their garments warm and cool equally, ridding you of the summer mornings where you wake up soaked in sweat because what you went to bed wearing when the temperature was cooler is now way too hot for the summer morning heat.
I am in love with their apparel. It’s simple, but looks amazingly comfortable. I am a huge fan of all-purpose apparel and I like being able to lounge around in something, but if I need to run out or do something very much spur of the moment, it won’t take much but putting on a pair of jeans and some cute shoes to look like I was really dressed all day long. Their next-to-skin scoop neck short sleeve top is one of the items that fits that bill exactly. But they also stock a great deal of other apparel items–like office wear, Long Jane bottoms and even briefs that will make you feel fresh and comfortable all day.
The beliefs held by Ramblers Way are something anyone and everyone can really get behind and more than anything, want to support. Ramblers Way believes in local business and serving a local population before going global and taking over the consumer-ridden world, which I find really admirable. They have also found ways to cut down on their impact on the environment. They run their business with the mindset that it is possible to be financially successful while also behaving socially responsible and in an environmentally sustainable manner. We have a significant loss of companies in this country who believe in staying grounded and remaining humble in all they do; we have even less companies respecting nature and what it can do for their businesses–it is amazing to see a company like Ramblers Way not just boasting these qualities, but living them every day.
If you are amazingly intrigued by Ramblers Way wool, you can get a sample of their superfine Rambouillet wool to experience for yourself before buying anything. That alone shows the amazing dedication Ramblers Way has for their work and the pride they take in what they do. It also shows that they know once you feel their wool, you’ll have to go back for more.
It has been just four months since British fashion designer Alexander McQueenwas found dead in his luxury apartment, but the fashion industry and those who appreciate and love it will continue to mourn the death of the amazing talent that was Alexander McQueen.
Britain’s Daily Mail reported not long after McQueen was found that he had hanged himself just days after the death of his mother and almost three years after the May 2007 suicide of his close friend Isabella Blow, who was the person to discover McQueen and launch his career.
WWD reported today that the ashes of the late fashion designer were buried on May 29th at Kilmuir, located on Scotland’s Isle of Skye.
His family issued a statement, saying that it was McQueen’s final request to be buried at Kilmuir and that he “cherished the times that he was able to spend on the Isle of Skye — he enjoyed the beauty, peace and tranquility.”

In typical Holly fashion, I found out about this awesome promo from Old Navy a day late. This year, I found out about it a day early. Hooray for me.
Tomorrow morning, be sure to make some time to stop by Old Navy to pick up $1 flip flops. Yes, that’s right! Flip flips for only a dollar. You could get 5 pairs of flip flops and it will only cost you $5.
So where will you be tomorrow morning? Yes, that’s right! At Old Navy saving some serious money on flip flops you can wear all season. Last year I read The Domestic Diva’s post about picking up bundles of flip flops and her post reminded me of a stampede, so be sure to get there super early so you don’t get stomped on.
This is an in-store promotional going on tomorrow only!
Sarah Jessica Parker looks absolutely gorgeous on the cover of the May 2010 issue of Vogue, no doubt lining up the cover to coordinate with the May 27th release of Sex and the City 2. While she is pictured on the cover in the usual “cover girl” fashion–huge, cheeky smile and sparkling eyes–what stands out about it is, of course, the fashion. The blue Calvin Klein dress is just eye-catching and dazzling, right down to the pleats protruding slightly from the hip. It’s most definitely a dress that, like the appeal of the shoes seen in the latest SATC poster, many women will no doubt be scouring websites, blogs and stores looking for something that compares to what we first came across merely in pictures. But unlike trying to find shoes that even resemble the chic, strappy high heels seen in the poster, getting your hands on Sarah Jessica Parker’s Vogue cover dress has become an actual possibility.
While the blue front-pleated Calvin Klein Collection dress Sarah Jessica Parker was shot for the cover of Vogue in was supposed to be a one-of-a-kind modification of a dress created for this fall by Francisco Costa, the dress has become so successful after the cover of the magazine started appearing pretty much everywhere that it is now considered successful enough to sell.
The dress will be made available to the public in the coming week and for $1,695 you can pick it up (and perhaps wear it better than Sarah Jessica Parker did? Maybe?) at Calvin Klein, located in New York City, New York at 645 Madison Avenue (60th Street), (212) 292-9000 or at Saks Fifth Avenue, located at 611 Fifth Avenue (49th Street), (212) 753-4000.
Perhaps Sarah Jessica Parker and the stylists behind everything SATC 2 really do have the capacity to stimulate the economy, after all!

It is my profound belief that no woman should ever be without a pair of truly kick ass black boots. Much like the little black dress, kick ass black boots serve a distinct purpose in a woman’s life. While the dress is something brought out of the closet when nothing else seems just right and is guaranteed to look fabulous regardless of what event you are attending or who you’re looking to impress, kick ass black boots make their appearance when women are feeling confident, strong, powerful and fearless; and if women weren’t exuding these attributes at first, as soon as they lace up those boots, they become a bit transformed. Black boots never go without being noticed and pair perfectly with those vintage graphic tees and jeans that hug your hips just right.
Juicy Couture founders Gela Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy have announced they will be leaving the brand to pursue other projects, including books, television and movies.
Since selling the brand to Liz Claiborne in 2003, the two founders have netted more than $200 million and since that time, their participation in Juicy Couture has been a downward spiral. In 2008, they stepped down as co-presidents of their own brand to become creative directors, making their announcement to leave the brand completely the only logical next step in their edging-toward-exit process. Nash-Taylor and Skaist-Levy did make a brief statement on their departure from the brand, saying:
“We stayed seven years, which is a long time… We’re super-creative girls. We want to bust out and do everything.”
While the founders are definitely trying to exit without too much of a flareup from their fans or anyone else associated with them on a business level, some are speculating that the real reason they have decided to completely leave the brand is because of their scufflings with Liz Claiborne CEO, Bill McComb. It has been said the duo and McComb have gotten into scuffles over the quality of Juicy Couture’s fashions declining after recent reshuffling of Asian manufacturers. McComb has also stated, “As a business gets bigger and bigger, less and less comes from the founding team.”
However, contrary to what McComb has stated about the continued success of Juicy Couture, upscale department stores, including the likes of Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s have been cutting back floor space allotted to the brand after plummeting sales and markdowns. In fact, Juicy Couture’s third quarter sales have dropped 7.8% and while Nash-Taylor and Pamela Skaist-Levy still continue to remain upbeat about its long-term prospects, I have to say that now was the best time to get out with their $200 million and spread their juicy-scrawled asses all over books, movies and television.
The weather here in Pennsylvania has gone down to below freezing several times within the past few weeks; we have also had numerous snowfalls. I would not have made it through the cold half as comfortable as I did without the incredibly awesome slipper boots!
In addition to being warm and cozy on cold winter days (and especially nights), they are also incredibly cute! I found some great styles and colors of slipper boots at Old Navy in early November and they have become a staple in my day time and night time apparel. Paired with the right jeans and a tshirt or sweatshirt, you can wear them around the house during the day time without people looking at you like you’re a crazy lady walking around in pajamas all day and there are enough styles and colors to choose from to go with practically anything in your wardrobe.
I personally own two pairs, in sweater-knit just like the picture above, only green with white snowflakes and also a pair of fair isle in light grey and white stripe and can say that they are excellent quality, will keep your feet incredibly warm and are definitely a winter must-have. Best of all, they’re pretty cheap at only $10 a pair!
