F&W Style Luxury Handbag Line Weds Nature’s Beauty with Modern Structures

F&W Style is a new luxury handbag line designed by Alexandria Alli, a second generation designer who, as a child, traveled the world and was influenced greatly by the many colors and patterns of nature that she was exposed to. Later in life she used that same inspiration to hone her design aesthetic and create a line of luxury handbags featuring snake and crocodile embossed detail and soft Italian leathers.

F&W Style’s fall collection consists of the natural patterned colors of burnt orange, winter white, perfect black, honey brown and caramel tan. The collection is presented within three personalities–Lola, Nikki and Raven. Every one of their handbags is accented with wild textured leathers, gold and silver tone hardware, F&W Style’s signature hot pink interior and a functional key holder.

Lola is a classy and sophisticated group of three handbags, a clutch, a petite hobo and a full-size hobo bag. Nikki is a collection of three satchel bags, two crocodile embossed, that go from day to night seamlessly. Raven is a collection of two totes and two tote toos that are both unique and gorgeous.

Designer Alexandria Alli and her team researched the current luxury handbag market and discovered a void where every day women could pick up fabulous handbags at an attainable price. Lady Gaga’s Computer-Generated Googly Eyes Have Sparked a Dangerous Trend

We have probably all seen Lady Gaga’s video for her song Bad Romance. It has over 240 million views on YouTube and it’s still racking up the views. While the video came out back in November of 2009, people are still pretty obsessed with it, and more specifically, her great big, cartoon-like eyes from the bath tub scene of the video.

Lady Gaga’s eyes in the Bad Romance video are computer generated. They were not simply made from makeup tricks, yet that isn’t stopping people from trying to achieve the look on their own.

There is a certain type of contact lens called circle lens that covers part of the white area of the eye and replaces it with a small, darker ring that extends further than the where the iris normally ends. The end result is your eyes look much larger and with a little makeup, white eye liner and some fake eyelashes, people have recreated the Lady Gaga Bad Romance look.

Circle lenses are already very well-known in Korea, but are gaining more and more attention in the US, where it is illegal to purchase contact lenses without a prescription. That isn’t stopping people from purchasing them from websites who are shipping the lenses to the US regardless of the fact that it is illegal for them to do so. But that isn’t the dangerous part about these contacts.

CBS Medical Corresponded Dr. Jennifer Ashton has weighed in on the dangers of circle lenses, saying that because someone is not getting fitted for the lenses by a doctor, they are either too loose or too tight on the wearer. This can cause some pretty serious infections and also scratched corneas. In some cases, it has been said that these infections can even lead to blindness.

While news of the potential dangers these contact lenses pose for the people who wear them is just receiving a great deal of attention, there are many tutorials on how to apply them and do your makeup to make your eyes look cartoon-like on YouTube. The most popular has nearly 10 million views, which I find pretty troubling.

While new trends are always popping up all over the place as soon as a big enough celebrity wears something, this trend could lead to a potentially serious condition. Blindness is no joke, even if there is a very small chance of actually going blind after developing an infection because of these contact lenses, it isn’t worth it. I just don’t think that putting yourself at risk to go blind is something worth doing as part of a fashion trend that will most likely not exist in a matter of months.

Alexander McQueen’s Ashes Have Been Buried at Kilmuir in Scotland

It has been just four months since British fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his luxury apartment, but the fashion industry and those who appreciate and love it will continue to mourn the death of the amazing talent that was Alexander McQueen.

Britain’s Daily Mail reported not long after McQueen was found that he had hanged himself just days after the death of his mother and almost three years after the May 2007 suicide of his close friend Isabella Blow, who was the person to discover McQueen and launch his career.

WWD reported today that the ashes of the late fashion designer were buried on May 29th at Kilmuir, located on Scotland’s Isle of Skye.

His family issued a statement, saying that it was McQueen’s final request to be buried at Kilmuir and that he “cherished the times that he was able to spend on the Isle of Skye — he enjoyed the beauty, peace and tranquility.”

Mulberry to Create and Launch New Line for Target

FDA Finds Lead-Laden Lipsticks

The FDA recently tested numerous lipsticks from various brands and found that lead was present in every single lipstick they conducted tests on. What’s even more startling is that the three lipsticks containing the most lead just so happen to be some of the most popular brands on the market, including CoverGirl, Revlon and L’Oreal.

It has been said by the FDA that there is no cause for alarm and that the level of lead found in the cosmetics does not pose a threat to the health and welfare of women who wear lipstick daily. However, despite their best efforts, there has been a great deal of weariness of cosmetics since these findings have been made public. Specifically, the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics isn’t buying the FDA’s calls for calmness.

It must be noted that lead is found naturally in air, water and soil, meaning the lead found in these cosmetics could have come from the raw ingredients in the products. But considering that some lipsticks had lead levels that were as much as 34 times the amount of others, it really makes you wonder what some companies are putting into their cosmetics that other companies are not. Specifically, CoverGirl’s Incredifull Lipcolor Maximum Red was 34 times higher in lead content than the lowest-scoring lipstick, Avon’s Ultra Color Rich Cherry Jubilee. Obviously Avon is doing something differently than CoverGirl to make sure that their lipstick does not contain a high lead content.

Even a small amount of lead being found in women’s cosmetics is not something to be taken lightly, considering studies have found that the average woman consumes about four pounds of lipstick throughout her lifetime from doing simple tasks like eating, drinking a licking her lips.

Florida’s Department of Health said that there is “no safe level of lead in blood.” Even in trace amounts, lead collects in the body over time and it stores in your bones. For women, lead is released into the blood at three key times–during pregnancy, during breastfeeding and after menopause.

There is one very valuable lesson to be learned from the FDA’s recent findings, and that is to make sure you educate yourself about what is being put into the beauty products you use. There is nothing quite like your natural beauty; when you underplay your makeup to simply compliment you and not take over your face, leaving you unrecognizable. Natural hairstyles and makeup are all over the runways, red carpets, and Hollywood celebs are sporting the “made under” look more and more; however that could be simply because they aren’t accustomed to doing their own hair and makeup anymore and have no idea what they’re doing. Whitney Port just so happens to be one of those celebrities we think are just gorgeous. She could most likely wear a garbage bag, not shower for four days, and eat nothing but chocolate and greasy Chinese food, and she would probably still look gorgeous. So how do you go about getting her bronzed glow for an everyday look that will never get old?

Step 1:
Start by applying tinted moisturizer. A tinted moisturizer will allow your natural skin’s texture to shine through and create a dewy glow. But, if you have trouble areas, feel free to dab concealer where needed.

Step 2:
Define brows with powder that is a shade lighter than the roots of your head hair. Take a look at Ardell Brow Defining Powder if you’re not sure where to start. Step 3:

Step 4:

Step 5:
Smile big and use a blush brush to apply bronzer on the apples of your cheeks to bring out a healthy glow. Try Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Loose Shimmer Bronzer.

Step 6:
Finish by dabbing on a sheer pinky-rose lip gloss (try Nars Lip Gloss in Sweet Dreams) and powdering your t-zone with a translucent loose powder to control midday shine.

Playtex and Style Expert Alison Deyette Come to the Rescue to Say Goodbye to Real Bra Problems

Bras reside in just about every woman’s wardrobe, but a lot of women aren’t wearing the right size bra–seven out of ten women, to be exact. Wearing the wrong size bra or a style of bra that doesn’t fit, flatter or support your breasts also results in a great deal of problems for women. Something as small as wearing the wrong size or style of bra can result in clothes not fitting the best they could or laying right over an ill-fitting bra, back and shoulder pain and even bruising and digging.

By the drastic number of women who are currently wearing bras that don’t fit them right, it is abundantly obvious that women, especially women who are plus size, are severely lacking in the support and freedom to know their bodies inside and out.

While professional bra fittings are available, the first place that pops into my head when I think of places to get a professional bra fitting is Victoria’s Secret and we all know the demographic that VS caters to–the very, very thin demographic. With this same mindset, the women are typically employed by VS (as far as I have seen, at least) are also very thin, modelesque women and when it comes to body shaming and woman shaming in general, no one can be harsher on a woman than a fellow woman. Going along this same wavelength the movie Mean Girls immediately comes to mind, but the cattiness and ill feeling towards other women sadly, does not stop in high school and can in fact escalate through adulthood. When you get right down to it, while VS is a store that provides free professional bra fittings, when plus-size women enter the store and are greeted by someone half their size, women of a certain size are not going to feel completely comfortable and at ease stripping down for a fitting.

Nails Inc. Teams Up with Diet Coke to Launch Nail Polish Line

In the world of company collaborations, this one sure takes the cake as far as relativity goes–Nails Inc. has recently put out a line of nail polish made exclusively for Diet Coke.

The Diet Coke City Collection is a collection of four colors inspired by the four fashion capitals of the world–London, Paris, New York and Milan. The nude tone is said to depict the cool fashion of Brits living in London, while the deep purple that represents Paris is made to represent a sunset over the Eiffel Tower. New York is the city that never sleeps and to put that tagline into color form, it’s vivid fuchsia and Milan is depicted in a fiery Italian red hue.

No, you cannot drink these nail polishes and they don’t have any other hidden, magic powers that will explain away why Diet Coke has ventured into the fashion world. The colors of the Diet Coke City Collection are also shades of nail polish we have already seen several times before, but there are only so many colors out there that can be mixed and made up, right?

If you’re interested in giving Diet Coke’s new nail polish line a whirl, from now until June 30th they will be given away for free at Boots in England with every purchase of two 500ml bottles of Diet Coke. For anyone not in the England area, you can get your Diet Coke nail polish fix as ASOS.com, who have an ongoing partnership with Coca-Cola. Sarah Jessica Parker’s Vogue Cover Dress Will Soon Be Available to the Public

Sarah Jessica Parker looks absolutely gorgeous on the cover of the May 2010 issue of Vogue, no doubt lining up the cover to coordinate with the May 27th release of Sex and the City 2. While she is pictured on the cover in the usual “cover girl” fashion–huge, cheeky smile and sparkling eyes–what stands out about it is, of course, the fashion. The blue Calvin Klein dress is just eye-catching and dazzling, right down to the pleats protruding slightly from the hip. It’s most definitely a dress that, like the appeal of the shoes seen in the latest SATC poster, many women will no doubt be scouring websites, blogs and stores looking for something that compares to what we first came across merely in pictures. But unlike trying to find shoes that even resemble the chic, strappy high heels seen in the poster, getting your hands on Sarah Jessica Parker’s Vogue cover dress has become an actual possibility.

While the blue front-pleated Calvin Klein Collection dress Sarah Jessica Parker was shot for the cover of Vogue in was supposed to be a one-of-a-kind modification of a dress created for this fall by Francisco Costa, the dress has become so successful after the cover of the magazine started appearing pretty much everywhere that it is now considered successful enough to sell.
