Goodbye, Pownce
First we heard about Hugg being taken down and now, sadly, Pownce will be closing. This is a very sad time for anyone who clung to Pownce like a lifeline, as I know happens just from talking to people I’ve met through other social networking sites such as Twitter and Plurk.
Even though Pownce will be closing, the people behind Pownce are bittersweet about closing its doors. One one hand, yes, it is a sad time and it has been a sad time with a lot of different online communities battling the economic crisis, but the people behind Pownce are also moving on to Six Apart, the company behind well-known blogging software, Vox, Movable Type and TypePad.
Pownce will officially be closing on December 15 and if you are currently a Pownce user who would like to have access to all of your Pownce messages, an export function has been added for your convenience. To export your files, all you have to do is go to pownce.com/settings/export/. After you export your data, you can import all of your messages to another blogging software…perhaps blogging software made by Six Apart so you can continue to support the makers of Pownce.
Since this is the second major internet community closing, I can only hope that some of my favorites can keep their services going. We hardly see the real truth of the matter and what could happen to the websites we frequent when we see a major drawback in the industry.
Goodbye Pownce, you will surely be missed.

Best part. They’re a bootstrapped, small team! Go underdogs!
Sad to hear the pownce going to close down very soon. Any idea why they are closing?
