Hair Accessories: How Much is Too Much?
When it comes to women and fashion, there are simply no words to describe a feeling a woman gets when her eyes fixate on the perfect item that she knows will compliment her style and wardrobe to a T. There is definite swooning involved and even some cases of putting a store’s number on the speed dial to check on the price of the item weekly–I’m pretty much the same way when it comes to bath and body products.
The world of high fashion, as seen through the eyes of top fashion magazines, sometimes baffle me. I can’t necessarily get into the big feathers, the high and sometimes obnoxious collars, the crazy skirts and the list can really go on for a while here. And in the eyes of high fashion, Barneys New York has put together some items that make me look at that item then at the price and wonder to myself “Why?” or “For what?”
And that is exactly what happened when I stumbled across the Jennifer Ouellette Satin & Feather Knot Headband.
This $85 hair accessory would compliment what, exactly? The matching white feathered boa and matching skirt you have tucked away in the back of your closet waiting for that one, special occasion? This headband comes in the black and white shown here and also dark green and black.
What do you think of the satin and feather headband, and maybe more importantly, the price?

I will agree with you on this one. I suppose it would be cute with the right outfit, but the price would stop me in my tracks. Amazing!
I only wear one hair thing and its a twisty tie. Anything else is just one more thing my son can destroy!
I’m personally willing to splurge on an accessory if I feel it is a total winner look for me with lasting power. I’ve found some fantastic examples at http://www.andreasbeau.com, a site full of truly unique and tasteful styles of headbands and other hair ornaments made from exquisite imported trims and flowers. I consider them affordable luxuries that make me feel like a million bucks.
If you’re going to wear this in public then you obviously have no issue with worrying of what others might say about you. I had a look at the other headbands on Barneys site and it only gets better with bargains as low as $50!
This really is a beautiful stuff. Elegant and equally fashionable. Women will be more than happy to buy one of those. Great website design too.
I know I couldn’t pull it off but if you can, why not!
This hairband really looks nice, I especially like the combination of the color, white & black. As for the price, $85 sounds bit expensive to me, but it is well worth it if someone really like it.
$85!! Never! I swoon when I shop but I always keep it sensible. I’m as confused as you with fashion trends and am usually very late at joining the trend if at all.
I think the feather band is a cute accessory that would go well with perhaps a black skirt and white blouse. For $85??? that’s outrageous. I could make that myself for $5.
Before I don’t mind what the price of hair accessories. If I like it I buy it but now I learn to save and invest my money and not to overspend. $85 for a hair accessory a big no no… Even though it is so beautiful and elegant. I like your article it’s a cool post.
I think the headband is perfect, but it would require a good match of wardrobe. But I don’t think I would buy that just for the sake of fashion. It’s quite expensive and I wouldn’t be able to wear that everyday.
I admit I can spend a lot of money on clothes, but I have trouble giving it up for makeup and acessories.
