Hi, thanks for your thoughts on the coffee maker. As someone who's been doing quite a bit coffee machines research, I find that many of the low end coffee makers have some pronounced weaknesses whether in the performance, functionality, reliability, durability, easiness of use, operate and clean, features, coffee tastes, and on and on. The best bet for freshest coffee is grinding the whole beans by your own, which will require a grinder adding to the budget, and am not sure the all-in-ones are really a good idea. However, the higher end machines, like some super automatic coffee makers, making also espressos, cappuccinos, etc., can do a fabulous job, but those machines are not cheap. The Delonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica seems to be a good example. It does a great job and at about $600 is fairly reasonable according to other high-end super auto coffee espresso machines. It makes super coffee and espresso; I did a review on the automatic coffee machine on my site, but one can shop around perhaps for a better deal. Otherwise, at this point, I would personally consider a Keurig single serve; I love the way it loves and brews and it has something that many other coffeemakers lack: the ability to brew really piping hot coffee.

I started off with a setup like you described, but now I want to upgrade to a super automatic machine.

Still trying to justify the cost to the wife, who is not a bigger coffee addict as myself!

These days pod coffee makers are in demand because most of the time no more than 2 people drink coffee together. Also i love the rich smell of the coffee made from the pod coffee makers.

I’m a bit of a coffee snop myself, and I’m not sure I’m convinced. I’d rather deal with fresh grounds then a pre-packaged pod. I would like to try it though, before I jump to these conclusions.

I haven’t had a pod coffee maker in a while, because these days I have a lot of guests over so I like to make a big pot of coffee for everyone. But pods are great for individual servings, and they’re simple to use.

Everybody should be more careful with the coffee. I was reading about coffee and found this : “Drinking five or more cups of coffee a day increases the risk of having heart problems 2.8 times, according to researchers at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions in Baltimore. After correcting for other factors — such as age, smoking habits and hypertenstion — they found heavy coffee drinkers still have 2.5 times the incidence of coronary heart disease compared with nondrinkers”. So we need to be very careful.
