I did buy one and returned as I was not that impressed with the Apple Hype and turned around and bought a Sony which I find to be easier to live with since I have always worked in a Microsoft environment.

As much as I like the looks of the Macbook Air, I don’t think I’d want to forgo all the features of my windows based notebook. I know, I know…windows stinks but all of the software I use for better or worse is on the windows platform. An alternative for a thin and light notebook might be the Voodoo Envy 133 when it comes out. It’s a bit thinner than the Apple but doesn’t sacrifice all the goodies that the Air does. HP helped develop it so that might be a strike against it but I’ll wait to the reviews come pouring in.

I definitely agree that the MacBook Air is not for everyone – it is very beautiful though.

Mac Book Air is not for everybody. You need to understand, when Apple introduced this they are going after a certain group of people.

I’m really not into the latest technology anyhow. I tend to let it settle for a couple of years before I even consider buying (into) it (if at all).

I’d be happy with just a non-attention-seeking mac laptop.

When it comes to notebooks I think you gotta go with PC, the cost is just so different. Towers is a different story.

I do think this is a pretty good niche for Apple to sell into. It isn’t practical – but the ultralight notebooks have never been marketed that way. They’re for people who value tech over usability – and this has that in spades.

I do everything on my Macbook, and I thought the AIR might make a good upgrade, since I’m always on the move.

The one thing that’s stopping me is the 4200RPM hard drive. It’s just way too slow to keep up with me.

While the SSD looks attractive, it’s too much of a price hike for someone like me to consider.

In the end I’m thinking of upping to a Macbook Pro instead.

Thanks for the post. This does look like a pretty incredible computer and I still am astonished that they were even able to create a laptop as slim as this one. However, there are definitely some downsides to it as well. The most significant drawback is the fact that it lacks a CD drive, which to me is an essential aspect of any laptop. On a more general note, I would also fear that since it is so fragile I would be more likely to break it.

It may the the “worlds thinnest notebook”, but its still a mac, which makes it absoultely worthless. You can squish a piece of poop and make it the “worlds thinnest piece of poop”, but you still got a piece of poop in the end. And yes, I hate macs.

I am in the market to buy a new laptop, and while the Apple is appealing, I gotta admit 1. I don’t NEED the ultra thin so therefore why pay extra for it. 2. I like the variety of software that a PC offers. The features of Macs, like better security, and a better OS just don’t make up for the lack of support on the software front.
Besides, I am too busy skiing, to care whether I have the thinnest laptop, mine spends the majority of its time in the living room.
I just want a new one, because I would like to have a work pc and a play pc

I like the MacBook Air…. however, whether it be this one or a different Mac, I can’t bring myself to justify paying more and getting less.

I know Mac has great features, but look at the specs. You can get a PC with twice the power, for half the price. I just can’t do it.

I believe that Apple has lost its way a bit lately especially with the Iphone it is all HYPE. There is no quality there really, also locking the Iphone and not letting it be sold outside the USA and select countries for the longest time was not very “friendly”, sounds kinda like some company I know…oh wait MICROSOFT.
