Monday Morning Tunes: MoZella

Not to be confused with the browser Mozilla, MoZella is pure sultry soul, mixed with jazz and delightfully minimally-produced pop, wrapped in a sweet and sometimes lovesick introspection.

But what’s soul without desperate, unrelenting love?

I came across MoZella on accident, as is the case with most of the music that I end up going back to again and again.

The song “Light Years Away” is on one of the soundtracks of the old WB series One Tree Hill, which I was making my way through when I heard it for the first time.

Whether or not you were a fan of the show when it was on (I admittedly have notoriously cheesy taste in television) it had a very strong musical presence; both in the music that appeared in the show, and its revolving music-centric plot, musician cast members, and characters pursuing careers in the music industry. It is still up and running, and I reference it frequently for music recommendations.

It’s ironic that I first stumbled upon MoZella kinda-sorta through television, given the fact that in 2005, her music was able to reach millions of television viewers when Mercedes-Benz featured her song “Amazed” in one of their ad campaigns. Her songs have also appeared in television ad campaigns for Verizon, Amazon Kindle, and Nissan. Television agrees with MoZella.
