Sex and the City 2′s Star-Studded Cameos

Tim Gunn, Sarah Jessica Parker Sex and the City 2 has been filming on location in New York City for the past few months and fanatics, like myself!, have been anticipating the movie’s release and searching the internet for any hints to spoilers to see what the basic premise of the sequel will entail. While we’ve been treated to a myriad of images from the set from paparazzi that have the film set covered daily, we can now count on a star-studded list of cameo appearances.

Stars hitting the film set for Sex and the City 2 include Penelope Cruz, Miley Cyrus and also Tim Gunn from Project Runway. (How many times will he say ‘Make it work!’ in the movie?)

While cameos can be fun, especially when they are significant to the brand, I don’t see the point in this case. I can understand why they decided Tim Gunn should be in the movie, since he’s a huge name in the fashion industry, but Penelope Cruz? And even more devastating, Miley Cyrus!? What part is Miley Cyrus going to play in the movie? And doesn’t her appearance in a movie with the word sex in the title against her whole role model, Disney actress image?

I understand the fact that they hadn’t planned on making a sequel to the movie, since everything was pretty much wrapped up at the end of the first movie; hell, it was pretty wrapped up by the end of the television series. But fans wanted more Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda and they especially wanted to know if Carrie and Mr. Big got married. I understand that too! But the only reason, in my most humble opinion of course, that a sequel to the movie is being made is because of the amount of money the first movie made. Big money in the theaters, especially in this economy, holds a lot of weight in the movie industry and undoubtedly swayed the decision for another movie but if you’re going to make a sequel, why fill it to the brim with cameo appearances, especially of cameos of people we already don’t care about (I’m looking right at you, Miley Cyrus!) Why not focus on the four (okay, maybe five if you include Mr. Big) people we actually do care about?

Why, Sex and the City crew? Why?
