More and more activity-based websites and online services are popping up for children and Fashion Playtes is a website that I really like the idea of.
Fashion Playtes lets your fashion-curious and crazed children design their own garments like tops, like tank tops, t-shirts, hoodies and dresses, online. There are 18 different apparel options and they are able to choose from a wide array of different fabrics, choose solid colors or patterns and can also decorate their clothes with flowers, ribbons, rhinestones and appliques. Your child can also create a full collection and you can even purchase the clothing from Fashion Playtes so your children and their friends can wear the designs.
Fashion Playtes’ website is very straight-forward and super easy to use and it’s a lot of fun. I played around with it for a little while and am a little sad to report to all of you that I even had a ball creating clothing–just look at the screenshot of the design I put together that is pictured above!
I am loving this website and also be sure to check out their blog, full of designs of the week, party ideas and educational website recommendations from the people behind Fashion Playtes.
Jeans aren’t the only thing gracing disposable diapers as of late. Diaper giant and fashion designer Cynthia Rowley, has created a line of designer diaper for Pampers that are being sold exclusively at Target.
Cynthia Rowley Cruisers come in 11 different designs full of playful colors, plaids, stripes, prints and patterns. They are sold in sizes 3 (26 count) and 4 (23 count) and can be bought in either a package for girls or boys for $14.99.
The word on the street around the blogosphere is that these diapers are incredibly cute, great quality, durable, didn’t leak and absorbed moisture away from their baby’s skin. But when you break it down, these designer diapers carry that word designer for a reason. They cost 57 cents (26 count package) and 65 cents (23 count) per diaper. When you’re changing six or more diapers a day, that isn’t a very wise spending habit to get yourself into, especially considering mainstream Pampers Cruisers retail for $4 less than Cynthia Rowley’s collection.
We have probably all seen Lady Gaga’s video for her song Bad Romance. It has over 240 million views on YouTube and it’s still racking up the views. While the video came out back in November of 2009, people are still pretty obsessed with it, and more specifically, her great big, cartoon-like eyes from the bath tub scene of the video.
Lady Gaga’s eyes in the Bad Romance video are computer generated. They were not simply made from makeup tricks, yet that isn’t stopping people from trying to achieve the look on their own.
There is a certain type of contact lens called circle lens that covers part of the white area of the eye and replaces it with a small, darker ring that extends further than the where the iris normally ends. The end result is your eyes look much larger and with a little makeup, white eye liner and some fake eyelashes, people have recreated the Lady Gaga Bad Romance look.
Circle lenses are already very well-known in Korea, but are gaining more and more attention in the US, where it is illegal to purchase contact lenses without a prescription. That isn’t stopping people from purchasing them from websites who are shipping the lenses to the US regardless of the fact that it is illegal for them to do so. But that isn’t the dangerous part about these contacts.
CBS Medical Corresponded Dr. Jennifer Ashton has weighed in on the dangers of circle lenses, saying that because someone is not getting fitted for the lenses by a doctor, they are either too loose or too tight on the wearer. This can cause some pretty serious infections and also scratched corneas. In some cases, it has been said that these infections can even lead to blindness.
While news of the potential dangers these contact lenses pose for the people who wear them is just receiving a great deal of attention, there are many tutorials on how to apply them and do your makeup to make your eyes look cartoon-like on YouTube. The most popular has nearly 10 million views, which I find pretty troubling.
While new trends are always popping up all over the place as soon as a big enough celebrity wears something, this trend could lead to a potentially serious condition. Blindness is no joke, even if there is a very small chance of actually going blind after developing an infection because of these contact lenses, it isn’t worth it. I just don’t think that putting yourself at risk to go blind is something worth doing as part of a fashion trend that will most likely not exist in a matter of months.
Marisol Rodriguez’s Skin clothing collection has sent me through a wave of mixed reactions ever since I first stumbled upon it.
Her green Transform dress, which transforms with your body as you go through your pregnancy, is very innovative. It’s something I have never seen done before, especially not in such a literal way, and it certainly racks up bonus points as taking an idea and bringing it to its execution in a very different way. It’s also a little ugly and not something I think I would be crazy about wearing out of the house.
The green dress, which is said to explore traditional Asian origami and simple methods of cutting and folding, begins as a very boring dress that hangs loosely on the body with its four slices in the material at the belly being very apparent. As your belly begins to get bigger, the center of the dress unfolds, showing light green stripes of color.
The Transform dress from the Skin collection is definitely a piece that will either be loved or hated by those who experience it. What do you think? Would you wear this origami-inspired, conceptual maternity dress?
This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Ramblers Way Farm. All opinions are 100% mine.
You may have heard of Ramblers Way and their Rambouillet wool, but the mission and the belief system that goes into their work goes so far beyond what you think you may know about them.
Ramblers Way is a family business with true passion and dedication to what they have built for their lives and business, all while paying homage to America’s rich history as a textile producer. The Rambouillet wool of Ramblers Way is grown on their own sheep farms and ranches that are spread across Maine, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas and Utah. The products Ramblers Way takes great pride in producing are made from only the finest, natural materials available throughout the country and you can be guaranteed that their apparel is non-toxic, naturally-insulating, fire-resistant, odor-absorbing, washable and long-lasting.
What I find truly impressive about Ramblers Way, and what I think you will find equally as impressive is that they have truly re-imagined wool–while inspiring more people to do the same. When most of us think about wool, it’s easy to immediately think about winter weather and bundling up to brave the cold, and most of us stop there. Ramblers Way is spreading the word about all of the great uses wool has and how it can be used nearly year-round.
Ramblers Way has an extensive stock of next-to-skin garments that are uniquely soft and lightweight, making it perfect to wear all day and night, regardless of the temperature outside. This is possible because their garments warm and cool equally, ridding you of the summer mornings where you wake up soaked in sweat because what you went to bed wearing when the temperature was cooler is now way too hot for the summer morning heat.
I am in love with their apparel. It’s simple, but looks amazingly comfortable. I am a huge fan of all-purpose apparel and I like being able to lounge around in something, but if I need to run out or do something very much spur of the moment, it won’t take much but putting on a pair of jeans and some cute shoes to look like I was really dressed all day long. Their next-to-skin scoop neck short sleeve top is one of the items that fits that bill exactly. But they also stock a great deal of other apparel items–like office wear, Long Jane bottoms and even briefs that will make you feel fresh and comfortable all day.
The beliefs held by Ramblers Way are something anyone and everyone can really get behind and more than anything, want to support. Ramblers Way believes in local business and serving a local population before going global and taking over the consumer-ridden world, which I find really admirable. They have also found ways to cut down on their impact on the environment. They run their business with the mindset that it is possible to be financially successful while also behaving socially responsible and in an environmentally sustainable manner. We have a significant loss of companies in this country who believe in staying grounded and remaining humble in all they do; we have even less companies respecting nature and what it can do for their businesses–it is amazing to see a company like Ramblers Way not just boasting these qualities, but living them every day.
If you are amazingly intrigued by Ramblers Way wool, you can get a sample of their superfine Rambouillet wool to experience for yourself before buying anything. That alone shows the amazing dedication Ramblers Way has for their work and the pride they take in what they do. It also shows that they know once you feel their wool, you’ll have to go back for more.
Huggies unveiled their Limited Edition jeans diapers in early May. They are available for an extremely limited time, only throughout the months of June and July, and can be picked up from any mass diaper retailer, including Target, Walmart, Babies R Us, among others.
Telling from their Facebook, a great deal of parents are over the moon about these diapers that are made to look like jeans. While most, if not all children will spend a good amount of time around the house sporting just a diaper, if you’re looking for a fashionable alternative to the standard, white disposable diaper, now may be a good time to look into cloth diapers that are not only reusable and environmentally-friendly, but also better for your baby. A great deal of cloth diapers also come in cool colors, patterns and prints–and in my very humble opinion, look much more fashionable than Huggies new jeans diapers.
However, when it comes to Huggies new Limited Edition jeans diapers, I am not as enthusiastic about them as many seem to be. I just think they’re a bit… unnecessary. But if you’re crazy about them and need to have them, they are available in sizes 3 to 5 and they are said to be made to fit the same as Huggies Little Movers and offer serious leakage protection that is known from the Huggies brand.
Will you be going out and stocking up on Huggies’ new jeans diapers?
It has been just four months since British fashion designer Alexander McQueenwas found dead in his luxury apartment, but the fashion industry and those who appreciate and love it will continue to mourn the death of the amazing talent that was Alexander McQueen.
Britain’s Daily Mail reported not long after McQueen was found that he had hanged himself just days after the death of his mother and almost three years after the May 2007 suicide of his close friend Isabella Blow, who was the person to discover McQueen and launch his career.
WWD reported today that the ashes of the late fashion designer were buried on May 29th at Kilmuir, located on Scotland’s Isle of Skye.
His family issued a statement, saying that it was McQueen’s final request to be buried at Kilmuir and that he “cherished the times that he was able to spend on the Isle of Skye — he enjoyed the beauty, peace and tranquility.”
