5 Simple, Yet Meaningful Ways to Honor Your Mother Through the Holidays

The holidays are coming up quick. No matter how early you may start your search for the perfect gifts, sometimes the hardest people to shop for are the ones closest to you, like your mom. Showing gratitude for such an important and influential figure in your life is no easy task. For New York City-based yoga teacher Kat Fowler, the holidays are the perfect time to spoil her mom with gifts, cards, and of course, yoga!

We caught up with Kat to see how she plans to honor her mom this holiday season. Here, she shares 5 simple, yet meaningful ways to show the special women in your life just how much you appreciate them.

1. Send a Text

Everyone likes to know that someone is thinking about them. Every morning, I send my mom a good morning text and tell her that I love her. It is a personal ritual that gets both of our days off to a great start. My mom is my rock and my foundation. Without her love and care, I wouldn’t be who I am today. This is just one of the ways that I honor her throughout the year.

2. A Small, Meaningful Gift

When it comes to giving gifts, I try to give something that is personal and shows someone that I care. For my mom, I try to choose something that will make her feel special, loved, and pampered. I have given her an essential oil diffuser because I know that it is something that will bring her happiness while at home — even if I’m not there. Her favorite scents are lavender and geranium, so I make sure to bring those to her when I see her. I love Nature’s Truth’s Lavender Essential Oil Cream, Peppermint Essential Oil Roll-On, and Calming Essential Oil.

3. Quality Time

The best thing you can give to your loved ones during the holidays is your time. Baking Christmas cookies or decorating the tree together is always sure to offer up countless laughs and memories that will last a lifetime. Sometimes I offer my mom and the other special ladies in my life a private yoga lesson. I can gear my lesson toward their personal needs and individual abilities that they might not get somewhere else.

4. Say a Prayer

If you are a religious or spiritual person, saying a prayer is an uplifting, internal way of expressing your gratitude. This can be an especially intimate moment if your family lives long distance. Wish your mom — and all of the other inspiring women in your life — health, happiness, and blessings in their lives.

5. A Handwritten Card

I’ve learned that it’s the gifts that come from the heart that always bring the most joy. Usually, I like to write a beautiful handwritten card telling my mom how much I love her, and it’s the best gift of all.
