“Dancing With the Stars” Season 11 Cast: Margaret Cho, Bristol Palin, “The Situation” and Other Surprises

Dancing With the Stars season 11

Anyone who watched “The Bachelor Pad” last night caught the big reveal of the “Dancing With the Stars” season 11 cast. The new line-up will be hitting the dance floor–and your television–on Monday, September 20th at 8 p.m. EST. The premiere event will take place over the course of two nights; after the cast’s first performances on the dance floor, the couple with the lowest combined judges’ scores and public votes will be sent home during the “Dancing with the Stars: The Results Show” on Tuesday, September 21st.

Last season, Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls fame took home the Mirror Ball trophy. Any bets on who will make it to the end this season?

The “Dancing With the Stars Season 11 Cast:

The Guys:

  • Michael Bolton
  • Rick Fox
  • David Hasselhoff
  • Kyle Massey
  • Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino
  • Kurt Warner

The Women:

  • Brandy
  • Margaret Cho
  • Jennifer Grey
  • Florence Henderson
  • Bristol Palin
  • Audrina Patridge

Bristol Palin Bristol Palin is most definitely the talk of the upcoming season. Many were shocked when rumors started spilling out just a few days ago about Bristol becoming part of the cast and last night it was dutifully confirmed by the announcement of the upcoming cast. Sadly, after watching her interview with ABC News (below) I’m not too excited about seeing this “other side” of her that she wants people to see because she still does not seem to have a personality. Bristol Palin has always been very one-note to me; kind of catatonic-like, unable to muster up any inflection when she’s speaking and she’s just horrendously boring to me. I’m not hoping she makes it very far in the competition and I’m not drawn to watching this season of “Dancing With the Stars” because of her being cast.

Margaret Cho The person who did pique my interest about this upcoming season was Margaret Cho. If I told you who I would never guess to appear on “Dancing With the Stars” that list would most definitely include Margaret Cho. Since I’m not a fan of the show in the least, I’m kind of disappointed about her agreeing to be on the show, but am happy that she gets the opportunity to appeal to more people, this time in the form of dance–and how awesome will she look in some of those ballroom dancing costumes? Being the very typical fangirl that I am, I did immediately check to see if Margaret Cho’s tour date for my city was still set, despite her run on the show just to make sure I would still have the chance to see her this October.

Who are you most excited to see hit the dance floor on this season of “Dancing With the Stars”?

2010 Emmy Awards: Jimmy Fallon Hosts and a Roundup of Winners and Nominees

2010 Emmys Jimmy Fallon

The 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards aired last night. I usually love awards shows and always watch them, rooting for my favorites to take home an award or complain about how my favorites shows and movies were robbed. This is typically a time of indulgence and enjoyment for me, but I realized last night just how much weight the host of an awards show has on the entire show and Jimmy Fallon hosting the 2010 Emmys really turned me off last night.

I do not like Jimmy Fallon. I don’t think he’s funny and I’m actually surprised his career in comedy has done as well as it has. I do hope that Jimmy Fallon has hit his peak with hosting the Emmys and we don’t have to see too much more of him in the future because I can honestly say that if he is chosen to host another awards show anytime soon, that is an awards show I will not be watching.

While watching the 2010 Emmys last night, I was also chatting with a friend and co-blogger of mine who I run the media and entertainment blog Women’s Eye on Media with. We published our Emmys chat from last night, so be sure to check that out for a lot (and I mean a lot) of snarky conversation all about who won last night, who walked away with nothing and of course, a whole lot about our hatred for Jimmy Fallon.

Barbara Walters Plans Daytime Talk Show for Male Audiences

August 26, 2010 by Holly

Barbara Walters We’ve known for a little while now that CBS is planning a daytime talk show with Hollywood moms that is being developed and co-produced by Sara Gilbert and while ABC has the very popular The View, they also have a little something extra up their sleeves and it’s being planned by Barbara Walters.

ABC is currently developing another daytime talk show to take the place of Oprah when it goes off the air. The difference between this new talk show and the already-airing The View, which Walters is a part of, is that this show will be made up of a male panel and targeted towards a male audience.

The male-themed View will be using a new set of celebrity panelists, said to include former ‘Today’ host Bryant Gumbel, comedian Alec Mapa, former BET news anchor Jacque Reid and former Fox News personality E.D. Hill.

This concept could potentially go over well, considering the current daytime television lineup is targeted predominately toward women. Do you think the potential co-hosts of the Male View could bring in the audience it needs to stay afloat?

Dina Lohan to Appear on “Today Show” to Talk About Lindsay

August 12, 2010 by Holly

Dina Lohan Lindsay Lohan hasn’t been the topic of half as many media stories since she was released from jail and entered into the 90-day rehab treatment that came attached to her jail sentence. So how is she doing? What is she up to? Is she recovering and what has this whole process been like for her and her family?

Well, if you’ve been wondering about Lindsay Lohan lately, your concerns will be addressed tomorrow morning as Dina Lohan sits down for an exclusive interview to Matt Lauer on the Today Show.

This will be the first time Dina Lohan speaks out publicly about Lindsay’s incarceration and court-ordered rehab, although we have heard a lot of hot air coming out of Michael Lohan’s mouth from the day of Lindsay’s court hearing until recently.

The Today Show airs weekdays from 7AM to 11AM.

Ellen DeGeneres Leaving American Idol After One Season

July 30, 2010 by Holly

Ellen DeGeneres Just one year after filling Paula Abdul’s vacant seat on the American Idol judges panel, Ellen DeGeneres has decided to leave the show, saying that it was not “the right fit” for her.

She had brought her concern of not being the right person to be judging the American Idol hopefuls to Fox and the show’s producers a couple months ago, but said she would hold off on doing anything until they were able to find someone to fill her seat. Understandably, DeGeneres said that having her daytime talk show and then judging the nationwide singing competition made her work schedule more than she bargained for.

DeGeneres commented on her decision, saying:

“I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on Idol and I am very grateful for the year I had, I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.”

With Ellen DeGeneres’ departure from the show, the team behind American Idol will not just have to find someone to fill her seat, but also Simon Cowell’s who announced he was leaving the show to concentrate on bringing The X Factor, a hit U.K. show, to the U.S.

There are a lot of rumors flying all over the place about American Idol; one in particular is that Steven Tyler will replace Cowell, which could be really interesting.

Hopefully they find two really great new judges because without having people on the panel who people actually want to see and hear from, American Idol could plummet more than it already has throughout the past few seasons.

Barack Obama Appears on The View

July 30, 2010 by Holly

Barack Obama The View Barack Obama was recently a guest on The View. No, you’re not going crazy–it’s still 2010 and there is no presidential election going on.

It was announced earlier this week that President Obama would appear on The View and in no time at all, pundits were throwing their notes together, writing their speeches and coming up with silly metaphors to accurately portray how crazy they think it is for Barack Obama to be the first sitting U.S. president to ever appear on a morning talk show. A segment on Nightline concluded with a voice-over booming on over a picture of Obama with his wife and two daughters saying “After all, being constantly surrounded by women is well within Mr. Obama’s comfort zone.” Dylan Rattigan of MSNBC showed a picture of the five co-hosts of The View, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Barbara Walters, and asked “Which of these lovely ladies–each of them lovelier than the next–will actually ask the president a difficult or challenging question?” Of course Dylan Rattigan is forgetting that during the 2008 presidential election, the ladies of The View were the only form of media to outright accuse John McCain of lying during his campaign and asked him very difficult questions. In fact, New York Times columnist Frank Rich called that interview “the hardest-hitting interrogation McCain has yet faced on television.”

So what did Barack Obama speak with the five co-hosts of The View about? Well, Barbara Walters asked what the high points and low points as of late, where President Obama spoke a bit about his recent vacation to Maine and also about the economy, as it was when he was voted into office and how it is now, the progressions we have seen as far as the economy and job creation and sustainability. The president was also asked about why his presidency thus far is seen as a failure, despite his list of accomplishments–and there have been quite a few. Joy Behar asked bluntly where the “attack dog” of the left is when “The right wing, through Fox News … seem to be hijacking the narrative.”

For an even more detailed recap of the president’s interview on The View, check out Broadsheet and you can also watch two short clips of the show. The first clip is a fun one, talking about pop culture, what the president has on his iPod, if he has an iPhone (he doesn’t) and if he knew Lindsay Lohan was in jail (he did.) He however did not know who Snooki was and I have to admit, I kind of respect the man a little more for that.

Bob Barker on Drew Carey and the Price is Right

July 28, 2010 by Holly

Drew Carey Bob Barker Bob Barker was stopped by paparazzi while walking down the street yesterday, yes apparently the paparazzi think they’re going to get a huge scandalous story out of an elderly man known for his years on a game show. A legendary game show of course, bnt still, a game show.

When asked about what he thinks of current host of Price is Right Drew Carey, Bob Barker said that Drew fails to add any “excitement” to it.

Barker’s statement, as expected, made the rounds on every celebrity gossip and entertainment website on the internet and got so much attention that Bob Barker felt the need to clarify his statement with EW.com, saying:

“I would not criticize Drew Carey. I would not criticize this show. I would not criticize CBS. I would not criticize FremantleMedia (which produces the show for the network) because I have a sizable royalty that I am paid every year this show is on, and it’s going on for years. I would be an absolute fool. I hope this show stays on for years. As for Drew, he’s been charming and complimentary, and he had me on the show to plug my book Priceless Memories. He devoted half of the show to me! He’s a charming man, and kind and gracious. To think that I would say anything derogatory about him is idiocy.”

Hm. Seems like a good amount of back peddling to me, but hopefully Drew Carey isn’t too offended by Barker’s statements, given Barker is pretty old and fragile and probably can’t handle a fight. (Yes, that was sarcasm.)

Lifetime Partners with the Centers for Disease Control to Raise Awareness of Traumatic Brain Injury

July 28, 2010 by Holly

Army Wives Lifetime CDC

Lifetime frequently raises awareness of public health and safety issues in their programming. During the month of October, they usually infuse breast cancer-related story lines into their programming, from inspiring and thought-provoking feature-length films to their original television series.

On their extremely popular show Army Wives, Colonel Joan Burton begins experiencing sleep disturbances, mood swings, headaches and has trouble remembering simple tasks after arriving home from being deployed overseas. After going to the doctor to see what is wrong with her, she is diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Lifetime has recently partnered with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to raise awareness of TBI.

TBI affects an estimated 1.7 million people annually in the United States in the form of emergency room visits, hospitalizations and deaths. It is caused by a bump, jolt or blow to the head that disturbs the normal function of the brain. According to a recent CDC report, nearly one-third of all injury-related deaths in the United States involve TBI and it also causes permanent disability for many American people.

TBI affects many people in many different situations. It can affect virtually anyone, but is said to fall in older adults and children and can be caused by motor vehicle crashes, concussions in high school and youth sports and assault on children and older adults.

Early diagnosis of TBI can save lives, so it’s best to know the signs and symptoms, which can range from mild to severe and include:

  • Thinking/remembering — feeling mentally “foggy” or having difficulty remembering recent events.
  • Physical — headaches, or difficulty with bright lights or loud noises
  • Emotional/mood — irritability, sadness, or nervousness
  • Sleep disturbances — sleeping more or less than usual

The Centers for Disease Control has more on TBI Prevention.

It is quite fitting for Army Wives to tackle the very important health issue of TBI, since it does affect many US soldiers. In 2008, the U.S. Department of Defense reported that seven out of ten TBI cases resulting from a blast during combat. The U.S. Army reports that 88% of TBIs among soldiers are mild (mTBI) but it can develop into something far more serious and it can be equally life-altering and devastating for the caregivers and loved ones of those affected by it.

If you are a family member or caregiver of someone who is affected by TBI, visit traumaticbraininjuryatoz.org/. You can also learn more about the efforts to ensure that military service members and veterans with TBI receive the best evaluation, treatment and follow-up by visiting the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center.
