Thelma and Louise Remake in the Works and it is Terrible!

I cannot believe that this is even happening, but apparently someone (someone being Jessica Manafort and Paul Schiff) had this incredibly terrible idea to remake the classic Thelma and Louise. This remake, which will also be renamed to Cowgirl Bandits (Are you kidding me!!!???) will star Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester and Amber Heard from Remember the Daze which Manafort also wrote and Pineapple Express.
This remake is an incredibly bad idea, especially considering the title Cowgirl Bandits is enough to make your brain explode, but we’re not even staying in the same age group here. Does everything really need a remake starring women half the age of the original actresses? In my opinion, the age difference alone makes this remake completely unbelievable. Not everything needs a remake, Hollywood! Thelma and Louise is completely iconic, why not go play around and ruin a movie that didn’t work out the first time?
What do you think? Terrible idea or completely awesome?

I think it’s kind of hard to say that it’s terrible without having actually seen it.
That said, I agree that remakes are supposed to improve upon the original. It would make more sense to remake a movie that originally started with a great idea, but was hampered by some other aspect (budget, technology, casting, etc.) to the point that the end product didn’t live up to its potential.
And, yes, the title is bad. If the project is a genuine remake, and not just some “loosely inspired by” sort of thing, “Cowgirl Bandits” misses the point, entirely.

Since I just saw the movie again last night on PBS, and liked it more than ever, I would say I agree its a terrible idea. Some things shouldn’t be messed with, and Thelma and Louise is one of them.
