Wordpress Upgrades to Version 2.3.3

February 11, 2008 by Holly

Wordpress In just little over a month, Wordpress has recently put out a new version–Wordpress 2.3.3.

From what I have seen across the blogosphere, mostly everyone who runs a popular, semi-popular or even small, personal blog that attracts their friends and family is running Wordpress. However, the CMS is starting to look a little scatterbrained as of late.

Version 2.3.3 is said to have been put out to correct minor bugs but is also an urgent security release. When running the past version of Wordpress, if you had registration enabled, “a flaw was found in the XML-RPC implementation such that a specially crafted request would allow a user to edit posts of other users on that blog.” Many blogging communities are also using Wordpress, a lot of which do have registration enabled, letting people who do not go through a screening process whatsoever to sign up and virtually cost the community their reader integrity, if they had edited other blog posts within the site.

If you run a blogging community or even if you do not and are staring at the yellow strip along the top of your Wordpress control panel, I think it’s time to update to the latest version! If you need instructions on how to update your Wordpress to the current version, check out the Three Step Upgrade; they make the process virtually foolproof! Also, when updating, keep in mind that the plugins you currently use with your site may not be compatible with the new version, so it is always wise to check out Wordpress Upgrade Preflight Check just to make sure that the plugins you’re using are going to go well with the new upgrade.

For those of you who have already updated in the past few days, how did the update go? Did you receive any emails saying your site looked a little funky for a bit? I’ve received a few of those myself and to my astonishment, people were actually on the site in the middle of the night for the few minutes or so that it took to update my Wordpress.

Happy updating!

I haven’t upgraded yet because half my site will go up in flames if I do. I’ve been working on a 2.3 compatible theme though for a bit now. Hopefully I’ll finish it soon. LOL

Wordpress sure puts those updates out fast, don’t they? I can’t believe they’re already up to 2.5.1 and it’s only a couple months since the release you talked about here. I’m actually kind of worried that they’re developing too fast to close all the security holes in the program. That’s one of the biggest issues when a program goes through an update. And Wordpress just went through a HUGE one with 2.5.1!

Have you upgraded to 2.5.1? How do you like the new admin panel? By the way, if you’re having trouble finding plugins that are compatible, here’s a great link to a page on wordpress.org that lists compatible plugins:

I am running Wordpress on My Wedding Blog, but it too will soon be upgraded. The unfortunate part of the system is that since is it in the limelight, hackers tend to find ways to cause security issues with the program often.

I may have to go with a custom created bog from here on in :(

Wordpress does update quickly, but I like that about them. At least they make it fairly easy to update. I’ve heard of a few bloggers having update issues, but I’ve updated multiple times this year, and I’ve never had a single problem. When I changed host, I had some issues with the new flash uploader in the newer versions of wordpress, but it can be solved with a simple hack that I found from Google. Huge fan of Wordpress! The greatest thing about it being open source is they can quickly find bugs and holes and get them fixed up and have an update out to us in no time.
